Mahama breaks NDC supporters' heart once again; repeats he WON'T run for presidency in 2020

Former Ghana president John Dramani Mahama has hinted at a possible bow out from the 2016 general elections after his latest speech at an international programme in Kenya.

John Mahama was the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when the party lost to current Ghana president, Nana Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) in last year’s elections.

And there have been rumours that the ex-president is already contemplating on pulling out of the race to represent the NDC in the 2020 elections.

This comes after his brother – Ibrahim Mahama – publicly stated that it is high time we “allow him (John Mahama) to rest”, adding that they had “advised him not to make a comeback in 2020”.

However, the issue seems to have gained prominence once again after Mahama said he was starting to consider the words of his father to leave the political scene “when the applause is loudest”.

Delivering a speech at the “Mindspeak” series where he was invited as a guest speaker, Mahama hinted that he might not be representing the NDC as the party’s flagbearer in 2020.

“Last month, I attended the inauguration of president Akufo-Addo. When I exited my vehicle and my arrival was publicly announced at the Black Star Square, there was a loud round of applause… again; I thought of my father and those words – ‘leave when the applause is loudest’,” the former president said.

He added that “when you find yourself standing at the center of all the sound and wrath, it is difficult to determine when it is indeed the loudest.”

It is still unclear whether John Mahama will contest in the 2020 general elections, but his latest utterances is sure to intensify talks of him bowing out of the race.
